Art & Craft
30 for 30
I often do a bad job at remembering to celebrate milestones in a significant way. At the end of spring I gave myself the challenge of creating 30 new works by my 30th birthday and BY GOLLY I DID IT! Each work in this series explores common crafting materials as the subject of intense observational study.
I believe there's magic in silliness, in plastic, sparkles and glitter! This work embraces the cheap and tacky, wrapping it in a colorful package. The true weight lies in the rendering. By carefully capturing each highlight, shadow, and hue, I am compelled to approach these common items with a higher level of reverence.
I've elevated the building blocks of my childhood art practice while preserving the essence of play. This body of work celebrates experimentation, curiosity, and meditative observation. With each piece I posed a question that each work answers.
